Have you ever seen an angel?

I’ve seen many.

Girls with blue eyes that sparkle like stars

Floating through the city on the way to work,

They pass me but when I turn they’re gone like fast cars.

I’ve known many angels.

Girls that could light up the darkest of rooms and make you smile on your saddest days.

I once prayed to God for change in my life.

And he sent me an angel that helped me change my ways.

Have you ever known someone that only saw the good in you,

And was willing to listen when no one else would?

I’ve known angels that inspired me to do things I was told I couldn’t do when I knew that I should.

You could meet an angel in the strangest of places.

Like behind the till in a café.

She let you drink your coffee and told you it’s on her this time and you don’t have to pay.

Then you run for a bus and pay with your last two pounds and realise that was a small miracle at the start of your day.

There are angels all around us,

And when we need them most they help us find our way.

I got nicked for driving a stolen motorbike.

I came out of the police station and I felt lost.

It was late and I had nowhere to sleep.

Except this wooden bench near an old tramp,

He was mumbling to himself, still a bit drunk, moaning, probably from a bad back or his leg giving him cramp.

I looked down and started crying,

I could feel his pain.

Then the clouds parted and the sky turned black and there was thunder and rain.

Still he slept.

I reached in my pocket and gave him a fifty pound note and one five.

And for the first time in my life,

I actually felt alive.

Angels aren’t just pretty girls or your dead grandma that you speak to when you’re feeling blue.

There are lost angels everywhere. Open your eyes.

And find the angel in you.
